Fenn Martin​-Ceramics

Researching the evolution of the Bergengren within the Antigonish cooperative movement, I was inspired by several iconic images along the way. These included fishermen carrying logs out of the woods on their shoulders in committed unison; citizens empowering themselves through education in small study clubs; and Canso women selling their knitted goods to raise money for fishing co-ops.

These images from the Antigonish Movement embody profound resourcefulness, determination, and a desire to participate in collective toil. The tension of multiple eras and characters creates a unique and multi-layered work.
