Inspired by the nearby Antigonish Harbour, I created irregular waves to disrupt the repetitive lines of the shingle design. Evoking ideas of movement, change and energy, sculptural tiles emerge and recede from the rigid shingle rows. These hand built "ceramic" shingles, play with the viewer's expectations of conventional maritime exteriors.
Using a frost proof clay recipe, slab and hand modeling techniques, I create large brick-like clay structures as a canvas for visual detail. This form of modular construction allows for adjustment to any scale or size. My carpentry skills and experience enable me to carry out such installations from conception to finish. My involvement in all stages of creation ensures the highest level of quality and fidelity to the original concept.
